Belated MLK message

I am posting this without comment, none needed.

RELEVANT SAINT

By Robert C. Koehler
Tribune Media Services

He had his day. Now let's drag him out of sainthood and back into controversy and relevance.

Martin Luther King has more to give us in the 21st century than a three-day weekend. Just read the speeches that haven't been chiseled in stone yet.

"This I believe to be the privilege and the burden of all of us who deem ourselves bound by allegiances and loyalties which are broader and deeper than nationalism and which go beyond our nation's self-defined goals and positions. We are called to speak for the weak, for the voiceless, for victims of our nation and for those it calls enemy, for no document from human hands can make these humans any less our brothers."

The public accolades ladled upon this fallen leader embalm him in sentimentality, in some glass case in the pantheon of national heroes, next to Washington, Lincoln, Elvis, et al. Then once a year we cherry-pick a memorable phrase here or there ("I have a dream" comes to mind for some reason), as though the words are frozen in history, part of a time when there was struggle and disagreement and prejudice.

The shocking thing about King is that his words are as alive and unsettling as they've ever been. Freed from the context of national myth, they can still elicit rocks and epithets and spittle from the mob. And they should. Their job is far from done. King's vision isn't simply a part of our past. His words give us a glimpse of our future.

The possibility he embodied flickered briefly in the national consciousness. Then the forces he opposed with his life reasserted themselves and regained control of government, making King's words about the national soul more urgent now, in my opinion, than they were in the '50s and '60s.

The above quote is from "A Time To Break Silence," the speech he delivered at Riverside Church in New York City on April 4, 1967 - a year to the day before he was assassinated - in which he broke publicly with LBJ over the Vietnam war. These words stand as tough and challenging as they did 39 years ago:

"We are adding cynicism to the process of death, for (our troops) must know after a short period there that none of the things we claim to be fighting for are really involved."

Listen again and you may gasp at their relevance just as I did when my friend Joel Garb, a Madison, Wis., Vet for Peace, started reading this speech to me the other day. Nothing has changed, except that our weapons are deadlier and our cynicism is greater.

King's voice, that day in New York City, soared beyond the particular war then in full fury and horror, to the eternal futility of violence, the limits of nationalism and the roots of war itself. His words are eerily prophetic. They could have been delivered yesterday; he could have been talking about Iraq: "The Western arrogance of feeling that it has everything to teach others and nothing to learn from them is not just.

"A true revolution of values," he continued, "will lay hands on the world order and say of war: 'This way of settling differences is not just.' This business of burning human beings with napalm" - today he would say white phosphorous, depleted uranium - "of filling our nation's homes with orphans and widows, of injecting poisonous drugs of hate into veins of people normally humane, of sending men home from dark and bloody battlefields physically handicapped and psychologically deranged, cannot be reconciled with wisdom, justice and love.

"A nation," King declared, "that continues year after year to spend more money on military defense than on programs of social uplift is approaching spiritual death."

These words tremble with relevance and controversy. Thirty-nine years later, the warning they deliver hits a wall of sophisticated denial. But they cannot be denied. They speak to who we are and how we behave. They unearth the impacted assumptions of geopolitics and - if we let them loose - threaten to revive the values revolution fomented by the civil rights movement four decades ago.

King declared himself not only an American but a citizen of the world. He refused to dehumanize in his own heart America's official enemies; he refused not to listen to them or see their point of view. Then it was the National Liberation Front; today it's "the insurgency." He dared to demand of government the qualities of empathy and love, and a sense of responsibility for the whole planet, not just its own short-term interests.

As far as I'm concerned, today is Martin Luther King Day, and so is tomorrow.

Baghdad Bob Revisited.

I was looking around tonight and re-discovered a site I had bookmarked a few years ago. I thought it appropriate to put up the link.
We Love the Iraqi Information Minister

During the invasion everyone had great fun mocking him for his antics on camera, always putting a positive light on the impending takeover of his country. He was definitely the most fun and inventive spin-master to ever hold court. Looking back, sadly, he turned out to be right about many things.

Below are just a few of his quotes:

"Bush is a very stupid man. The American people are not stupid,
they are very clever. I can't understand how such clever people came to elect such a stupid president."

"I can assure you that those villains will recognize, will discover in appropriate time in the future how stupid they are and how they are pretending things which have never taken place"

"They (the U.S.) are deceiving their soldiers and their officers that aggressing against Iraq and invading Iraq will be like a picnic. This is a very stupid lie they are telling their soldiers, what they are facing is a definite death."

"The shock has backfired on them. They are shocked because of what they have seen. No one received them with roses. They were received with bombs, shoes and bullets. Now, the game has been exposed. Awe will backfire on them. This is the boa snake. We will extend it further and cut it the appropriate way."

"When we were making the law, when we were writing the literature
and the mathematics the grandfathers of Blair and little
Bush were scratching around in caves"

“We have placed them in a quagmire from which they
can never emerge except dead”

"Washington has thrown their soldiers on the fire"

"I speak better English than this villain Bush"

"These cowards have no morals. They have no shame about lying"

So.. there you have it. Who's laughing now??

Bush is drinking again.

After watching that video yesterday of the flaming shit-ball mocking wounded troops by comparing his head scratch to an actual battle wound, I finally figured out how he could be so detached from reality. To think it funny to do something like that in the presence of troops who were maimed because of his lies is beyond any understanding I have of human behavior. Besides being delusional he also exhibits perfectly all the symptoms of a sociopath. Read the symptoms for yourself and tell me it isn't so. Beyond these things, the only reason I can think of is he's drinking again. He looked hung over in that video yesterday. I think he banged his head again while drunk and ad-libbed that comment about his scratch so the press wouldn't ask him about it later. Look at his twitchy movements and puffed up red face. The fucking guy had alcohol poisoning going on. As a sidenote, I hope that nurse he fondled files a sexual harassment suit against that I-hate-women-lets-molest-them-on-camera assmunch.

Here is the official much longer video direct from the chimphouse: President Visits Troops at Brooke Army Medical Center. I love how he has to "consciously" remind himself he is not GOD. He actually said this to a reporter
QUOTE: "THE PRESIDENT: First of all, Mike, I'm conscious not to be trying to substitute myself for God."
WOW. What do you say to that anyway? Before you click the link above, how do you feel knowing that they track visitors to the site? Not in a harmless site-meter kind of way, but in a I-have-every-detail-of-your-entire-life-in-a-nanosecond kind of way. Not a pleasant feeling is it. Just remember according to the laws that are on the books right now the govt. has the right to rendition your ass to Gitmo or any other prison camp they deem necessary, with no explanation why, no admission of whether or not you're actually there, and no rule of law providing you with any legal counsel, recourse or representation. It is entirely up to commander chimps discretion and that is that. Me, I just don't trust the discretion or judgment of a drunken coke-head sociopath deciding whether or not I should get the cattle-prod-up-the-ass treatment over in Syria or any one of their other CIA Run Secret Prisons. But enough about what I think.

Here is the chimp in this 1992 wedding video excerpt--shot years after he supposedly stopped drinking cold turkey in July 1986 The Smoking Gun: Doofy Dubya: Only In America

Okay, this one is from some comedy show, obviously the video has been tweaked but It sure is funny. Here is Bush Drunk at a press conference.

We know for a fact that assmunch had at least one
drunk driving conviction and lied about it repeatedly.

This site has lots of reference material concerning Commander chimps closet full of Skeletons.

He's drunk, look out world.

Delay resigns. Bush still retarded.

A few things tonight...
Remember Paul Bremer the guy who raped the Iraqi's oil fields and stole at least nine billion $$ while he was administrator of the Iraq rebuilding effort? Looks like he's out promoting his new propaganda pamphlet. Here's a link at THE NEWS BLOG There are quite a few good comments there as well.
OMFG-d I thought bush had already said and done everything that would amaze and baffle me with his utter stupidity. Once again I misunderestimated that flaming shit-ball. Crooks and Liars has a clip of chimpy visiting the Brooke Army Medical Center for a photo-op with a captive audience. I say captive because they are missing their fucking limbs. Blown the fuck off in his quest for oil. He tries to sympathize with the wounded troops by saying he had been in combat too, with a fucking tree! There is more at NO QUARTER: The Battle of Cedar Gulch. I have never seen anyone look more fake, more detached from reality or more retarded than shrub. This really takes the cake. I'm almost stuttering trying to come up with a word to describe him.

Maybe this is his problem

This assmunch is a menace to the entire universe and we need to put him in prison. FOREVER. Please jebus, let this be the year these neocons reap what they have sown.

Even HowlinBigDog Chuck knows the truth.

I read it first at Night Bird's Fountain Delay is done. Message to Tom:
See you later asshole. I hope you rot in hell. Actually hell might be too nice of a place to spend your eternity, maybe something more like being forced to spend it surrounded by gay and lesbian progressives, brown people, liberals and poor people. You know, the people you hate Tom.
After a lifetime of fucking us over with your racism, ignorance and contempt I'm thinking you would like that a whole lot less than hell and sure would be fun to see. Oh and by the way Tom, Fuck you.

Last but not least:

Dude, where'd my pants go?

Uh oh, presidential camel toe. Shhh! don't tell anyone. I'm thinking the SS guy that let that picture get taken on his watch got a new assignment somewhere very very unpleasant.
A little satire from buzzflash. I love these guys.
Jenna W. Bush: Following in Father's Footsteps?
I might be wrong but I think I see a pattern here.Party on Wayne!
It's probably not all her fault really if you look at Commander chimpys family photo album. That explains a lot of things. I'm pretty sure the chimp family has had more than their fair share of lucky breaks. But wait, yet another lucky break. Bush twin's alcohol citation dismissed after terms met.
If you can't pay off a judge, or use your position to intimidate them, you just might wind up in the big house, if so you are going to need the Bush Family Arrest & Prison Survival Guide: With Family Values Poster Children Jenna, Barbara, Noelle, Jebby and George P. Bush

On a more serious note..
I found this clip over at the Media Research Center They advertise themselves as being "The Leader in Documenting, Exposing and Neutralizing Liberal Media Bias" The funny thing is they have lots of clips showing lefties hammering bush apologists and underlings but use them as examples of" The worst type of reporting". Here is a short video of Terry Moran where asks the snarling cheny "I’d like to put this personally, if I can. You’re a grandfather. I’m a father. When we look at those girls and we think that the country we are about to pass to them is a country where the Vice President can’t say whether or not we have secret prisons around the world, whether water-boarding and mock executions is consistent with our values, and a country where the government is surveilling Americans without the warrant of a court is that the country we want to pass on to them?" The evil one did not look too happy about the question.
Somebody post a lookout for Terry who is most likely now bagging fries somewhere.

The latest AP poll tonight shows Democratic Congress Preferred by a majority.

Sobriety and the BoogyMan

I came across several posts tonight in which people talked about having broke free of some type of addiction. Gambling, cocaine, alcohol, etc. I'm proud to say me too! I came from a background of four generations that I know of who were alcoholic, pill popping maniacs. I didn't know they were maniacs at the time, it was all I knew and seemed quite normal. Great grandma said you used to be able to buy cocaine from the sears catalog. Who knew. Our family motto could have been "When the going gets tough, the tough get fucked up"! Or "When the going get going, the going, I mean. umm we, whatever, hey! Lets get fucked up!"
I naturally started doing my part when I was about twelve or thirteen with the unspoken blessing of my folks. Spoken loudly however by things like getting a carton of Marlboro's and a quart of Yukon Jack for my sixteenth birthday. Actions speak louder than words, so "get that dope outa my house" didn't mean much to me.

By the time I was eighteen I was a mess. At twenty five I was full on crazy and dangerous but still only mildly aware that most people didn't live like I did. I spent the next ten years on what I now think of as "The magical mystery tour" Ten years of fucking up my life, becoming depressed and disillusioned, scrambling to repair it, reaping the benefits of the repair and then fucking it up again. Then repeat the process. I was baffled and it was complete mystery to me why it kept happening.
I did the 12 step thing. I liked that for awhile until it seemed to me more like a cult than anything else. And seeing people who had sat at the same table in the same seat twice a day for thirty years straight, saying the same thing every day, seemed more like a curse than a "gift of sobriety" It was a good start and the beginning of my self reflection. (Note to 12 step people: If it works for you, bless you! It just wasn't a lifelong fit for me)

Luckily I was born with an insatiable curiosity and quite beside my own self I started learning more about the world around me and how I did or did not fit into it. I started seeing how my perceptions sometimes didn't match the facts. I saw how things that I disliked or even hated, if I really looked hard, were a part of my makeup also. I started to understand that my feelings and my inability to deal with them were the problem. It wasn't my fault, I just never learned. As an adult I had a choice, be a victim and blame my upbringing, or accept responsibility for who I was and be accountable to myself for changing. I found myself at a different step one. I could write for hours about the journey from there, but not tonight.

Carl Jung said in his book Man and His Symbols:
"It is the face of our own shadow that glowers at us across the Iron Curtain."

How true this is! Those parts of myself that I hide, repress and deny must find an outlet for expression. It seems to be a law.
Not just for me, but for all humans. That which we deny a place in our conscious goes into the realm of the shadow. When I discovered this some years ago things began to get better for me. I began to learn how my projections kept me from seeing the truth about myself. And so it is today. A learning process, perhaps a lifelong one at that.

I think that is one of the reasons bush and his henchmen have been so successful at what they do. They tap into that part of us that we hide, repress and deny. They scare us into believing our projections are real. The boogyman doesn't live in a tent and ride camels. He lives right here among us.

Ignorant Sheeple

I spent a little time over at The Heretik tonight. I can see I am going to be spending some time browsing the considerable amount of material there. I'm also adding a convenient link to my sidebar.
Thanks to the Heretic for stopping by my place. I've had this thing up for ten days now and am finding blogging just a wee bit addictive. I think a large part of the attraction is feeling like I am doing something I judge to be important and necessary. Information is power and by adding my effort to speak the truth here in my tiny corner of the web I feel less helpless under the crushing power of this fascist administration. I also feel less alone. Ignorant and brainwashed sheeple seem to inhabit everywhere I go.

In my daily work life world by headcount only one of the nine people I work with closely is even remotely interested in talking about what the world today looks like, or should I say intelligently talk about it. The rest of them repeat almost verbatim every new talking point that comes from foxnews or little billy oreilly's show. No matter the subject, they know what's going on because "I saw it on the news". It is pointless to debate them, their minds are closed and I get about the same satisfaction from talking to my shoes.

I remember a couple years ago before I gave up trying to wake them up, we were talking at lunch about Iraq. I was trying to make the point that the war was illegally based on lies. It had no connection to 9/11. I wanted them to see that violence begets violence, and that the only way to combat the idea of terrorism was to confront our own part in creating conditions that make people want to strap a hunk of c4 to their ass and blow themselves and us up. At some point one of them got pissed off, and I am not shitting you about this, they yelled- "Fuck all them fucking sand-niggers. We ought to turn that whole desert into a plate of glass and then go get the fucking oil" Holy shit!! He was serious. Now how to you debate that?
This coming from a grown man with a family and a decent education for fuck's sake. I did for a moment understand what drives people to violence as I really wanted to smash his head in with a hammer. Commander chimp and his bootlickers get away with everything they do because in too many of our fellow citizens, just barely under the surface lies this hatred for all who are different, in color or religion or sexuality or anything that scares them.
So here I am....

Here is a good short read over at The Heretik: Shoot the Messenger Again.
The last sentence of the post asks: "Ask yourself why the White House treats us all like kindergardeners."
Answer: Because they can. Because they can and because they can count on millions of people who only see what they want to see or even better yet for the Oppressor, what they are told.

Here's assmunch in a photo indicating the number of times
he's been truthful in the past forty years.

Fun google hits and a great site.

I wish I would have found this a few weeks ago, this is a pretty funny rant about the so called "war on Christmas" that all the wingnuts were spouting off about. Fuck billy o'reilly and Fuck Christmas.

Speaking of little billy our man of great stature and proponent of moral values, here's a link to wikipedia with some info about his sexual harassment lawsuit. There also a bunch of other links there detailing just what a choad this ass-munch really is. How this guy even looks at himself in the mirror is beyond me.

Another funny thing this week that's probably old news already, here is what you get for results when you google the words "baby jesus".

Yet another funny google thing, you remember our pal rick santorum? I shit you not, that is the number one result of googling santorum.

You gotta read this article, I almost spit my coffee on the screen..Sex Tips From Rick Santorum / In which the noxiously homophobic Republican senator answers your naughty e-mail It's a few years old but still funny, (and relevant) as hell.

Okay, one last google funny for tonight, if you type in the single word "moron",this is the result.

I found this tonight too : FREEWAYBLOGGER.com - Free Speech: Use It or Lose It. I love this guy, spend a little time browsing his site and blog. Great great stuff there. It really is true that one person can have an impact. Check it out.

And in case you forgot why we are here.
It is time to impeach this

Pressing on in the struggle

I Found this tonight over at
donkey o.d.: ACLU Ad: The President Lied to the American People and Broke the Law I can only hope that by adding my voice to the outrage, then you, and you, and you... something will finally be done about this traitor and war criminal.

If this doesn't piss you off, nothing will. It's a story about the use of white phosphorus in Iraq. You know, CHEMICAL weapons, only not the ones that Saddam didn't have, the ones that we have the largest stockpile of in the world.
You know, the ones that are outlawed by the Geneva convention, not that bush or the rest of his Gestapo gives a shit about that legal document after all it's just another goddamn scrap of paper..So have a read if you can stomach it.
Daily Kos: Melting the Skin Off of Children [GRAPHIC] remember people, this is YOUR tax dollars at work spreading freedom. More liberated Iraqi children. Here's an excerpt:

"But all that aside, there are very good reasons, even in a time of war, not to melt the skin off of children.
First, because the insurgency will inevitably be hardened by tales of American forces melting the skin off of children.
Second, because the civilian population will harbor considerable resentment towards Americans for melting the skin off of their children.

Third, BECAUSE IT FUCKING MELTS THE SKIN OFF OF CHILDREN."

It's time folks. Capitol Hill Blue: Time to impeach a President Nothing less than the future of this country is at stake. If we continue to allow this madman to perpetrate his crimes, we are completely lost. The thing that really pisses me off is that while these wingnut freaks are relentless in their spouting off about spreading freedom and democracy, they are just as relentless about trying to destroy it here at home and abroad. It is doublethink at it's highest form.

Now that your pissed off and disgusted make sure you visit Crooks and Liars tonight to recover your equilibrium, they have some funny stuff posted from John Stewarts show. Thank jebus they are around or I'd really have a hard time finding anything to laugh about.

It's always fun to have a look here too.
George W. Bush or Chimpanzee?

2006: Time to Wake up America

I'm not much of a writer, I'm a blue collar guy. I work with my hands to make a decent living by today's standards. While my wages have gone up in the last few years, my actual buying power has declined dramatically as the cost of energy and everything else has exploded since ass-munch hijacked our country. I'm still better off than many people I know, but then again the last time I went to the local mall with all it's Hummers and Lexus's parked outside, I didn't see anyone I was acquainted with.

I never went to college, I still don't know what the hell a preposition is, my punctuation is made up on the spot, and if it weren't for spell-checker I'd have to recruit my wife or kids to proof read this stuff to avoid looking like an idiot.
I guess that makes me an average American! Thanks to our wonderful public education system here in America there's tens of millions in the same boat as me. So what! If this sounds like you too, then get over it. Don't let it stop you from yelling your head off about what is going on here! Being an intellectual doesn't mean you have a degree and wear dockers to your alumni banquet, it means that you THINK. You know, actually use your brain to gather information and then form judgments of your own making. Everyone has a bullshit detector, mine happens to be highly developed, yours probably is too, so the next time you hear yours sound an alarm while listening to the relentless nonsense spewed by the right wing, pay attention and find out the truth for yourself! Now get out there and make some noise troops!

I was wondering this morning if anyone else noticed that some critically important news items have virtually disappeared from the public consciousness. Not the least of which is the proof that bush and his band of power/money hungry thugs fabricated everything that was sold to us as reasons for invading Iraq. What the hell happened with the investigation into The Downing Street Memo ? It's obvious to me that this along with some other important documents that have been wiped out of existence as far as publicity goes, would seal this administrations fate as traitors and war criminals if the public ever really grasped the deliberate and criminal intent of their actions.

Here is a link from truthout, besides the excellent article by William Rivers Pitt: Nail It to the White House Door there is a link to a video containing an excerpt from a documentary I had not heard about until I found it this morning. The description from their site says: "Hijacking Catastrophe :: 9/11, Fear & the Selling of American Empire examines how a radical fringe of the Republican Party used the trauma of the 9/11 terror attacks to advance a pre-existing agenda to radically transform American foreign policy while rolling back civil liberties and social programs at home. The documentary places the Bush Administration's false justifications for war in Iraq within the larger context of a two-decade struggle by neoconservatives to dramatically increase military spending in the wake of the Cold War, and to expand American power globally by means of military force."

Well looky looky, I got linked already, chalk one up for the little guy. UnknownNews Dialogue with our readers

These folks at UnknownNews have some great stuff there. I like this one below a lot. It's especially relevant considering the latest round of even more tax cuts for the wealthy and the gutting of more social programs, check it out: Poor People Advocates Resist Outrageous Budget Proposal

I found this link this morning with this plea:
*Calling All Bloggers: These Documents need publishing *
I am more than happy to do my part. Check it out
excuse the mess... that was just my head: things we need to know.

I hope the New Year brings us peace.

Happy New Year!
I hope 2006 brings about the dismantling of the fascist regime and new hope for our troops to come home! Perhaps some of our leaders will grow some balls in 2006 and the mainstream media will start reporting the news as it happens, when truth might actually influence world events and not a year later.

I celebrated by practicing some yoga and watching Crash . It was disturbing, thought provoking and emotional. See what happens when we strip away all the politically correct nonsense and confront our prejudices head on. It isn't pretty but it's real.

I found one of my favorite clips of last year. It's from when Donahue went on the little billy orielly show and knocked his ass out.. This clip is a perfect example of what happens when an ignorant blowhard like billy confronts an intellectual like Phil. Substance vs. Gibberish. It's great stuff, I thought orielly's head was going to explode. Go have a look the video is at Crooks and Liars.

I found this article at Aquarian Conspirators. : No wonder I haven't heard the phrase "Don't be silly, wrap your willy" lately.
Those fundies aren't real big on science, or humor for that matter.

Here's one of my favorite chimp pictures. It's hard to believe Commander dip-shit is so bent on pushing intelligent design down our teachers throats when Darwins theory is so obviously at work here right in his family tree. Somebody start counting chromosomes please.
